What are automatic letter openers?

Gone are the days of using a envelope opening knife!

Automatic letter openers allow the user to stack a pile of unopened letters on a feeder, the letter opener will then very quickly ‘mill’ or ‘slice’ the top of each envelope providing an open envelope and with it allow faster extraction of the contents.

What is the difference between slicing and milling letter openers?

Slicing letters are the conventional letter openers, they use a blade to effectively cut the top off each envelope. These are fine for non critical mail but if you are handling important documents such as original cherished documents, cheques or legal letters our recommendation would always be milling.

Milling letter openers take a very fine edge off the top of the envelopes, this process chips away the top of the envelope rather than slicing it. As it removes a finer edge it is far less likely to damage the contents whilst also leaving a feathered edge helps mitigate papercuts for the operators.

Think about what happens to your post next....

We always ask about what happens to post once you have opened and removed the contents, there is now a whole host of solutions and technology to support further automation within a business. Opening letters faster is great, but we see a lot of the more laborious tasks come after letter opening, such as scanning, indexing, moving document in and around a business physically.

Our digital transformation experts can help advise your business on the art of the possible so your keeps up to date with the competition, becomes more efficient and better serves its clients.
