What is a folding and inserting machine?

Folding and inserting machines allow for paper to be loaded to a feeder for automatic fulfilment into envelopes. Machines come with various capabilities, with the key operational variance being the number of feeders for different collateral to the number of pages/thickness capacity they can fulfil into envelopes.

Most inserting solutions will have the ability fold a letter either to a C fold, Z fold (for a DL envelope), or a single fold (for C5 envelopes), with some larger machines being able to run larger packs into C4 envelopes.

How do I know a machien has correctly fulfilled the letters?

It is no use fulfilling envelopes very quickly if you cannot guarantee those envelopes have been fulfilled correctly, especially when the contents of the envelopes includes personal information or client specific pricing.

Modern inserting machines come with barcode scanning to allow every page of job to be read to ensure only those pages due for an individual or company go into an envelope as intended. Additional reporting software is also available so you can further evidence that any documents processed were processed correctly, right down to each individual page, this is called page level verification or file based processing.
